James is a seasoned maritime professional with a wealth of experience across various areas of the maritime industry. He began his journey as a volunteer with the Nelson Coastguard, gaining hands-on experience in search and rescue operations. From there, he worked on a luxury tourism vessel in Fiordland, navigating some of New Zealand’s most beautiful waterways. His time in the Royal New Zealand Navy further honed his skills in seamanship and maritime operations, both domestically and abroad.

Today, James brings his expertise to Maritime New Zealand, where his day job is working in the Maritime Response arena, helping to build the capability of those that respond to maritime incidents around New Zealand and the wider Pacific.
